Landscapes

View this Collection

For the most part, my landscapes are scenes of New Hampshire.  To me, it doesn't make much sense to travel too far for scenes to paint when there's such beauty so close to home. For example, the painting, "Red Geraniums" is of a home built in the early 1800's and overlooks the Village Green in the beautiful colonial town of Amherst, NH, where I live.

Marine and Coastal Paintings

The above painting, "Maine Coast", was awarded the Jack Richeson Certificate at the Academic Artists Association's 59th National Exhibition of Contemporary Realism in Art in 2009.

My primary focus with seascapes is to attempt to capture the power, movement and rhythm of the water.  Most of my seacapes and coastal paintings are of points along the coast of Maine and New Hampshire, although I did sneak one in from the west coast of Ireland.  I thought I came up with something unique when I started a series of water lily paintings.  That is, until I discovered there were one or two water lily paintings which preceded mine!

Still Lifes

When I first started in an art class, we did still lifes.  So, I figured they must be easy.  How wrong I was. The movement of light across the canvas, the delicacy of a petal, the sense of interaction between the objects are not easy for me. I'll paint flowers now and then, but my preference is to include objects I can eat or drink during the process of painting.
